Equality California Endorses Congresswoman Julia Brownley for CA-26
Ventura County, CA- Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) announced her official endorsement from Equality CA (EQCA)- the largest statewide LGBT advocacy organization in California.
“As a fierce advocate for equal rights for the LGBT community, I’m very proud to receive the endorsement of Equality California, an organization long dedicated to furthering equality in California and across the nation,” said Rep. Julia Brownley.
“We have come a long way since the passage of Prop 8, and the Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn it, but there is still more work to do. Ventura County’s LGBT community, and their friends and family, can be assured I’ll continue to fight right by their side,” said Brownley.
The list of EQCA endorsed candidates includes 36 incumbent members of Congress who have perfect 100 percent pro-equality scores. It is EQCA’s policy to endorse incumbent candidates with a record of 100 percent on LGBT-related legislation.
“Julia Brownley has been a stalwart champion of full equality since her days of working with Equality California as an Assemblymember, where she authored a bill protecting LGBT foster youth,” said Rick Zbur, Executive Director-Elect of Equality California.“We are proud to endorse Rep. Brownley in her re-election campaign because we know that she will continue to be a leader for the LGBT community.
“Her opponent, Jeff Gorell, has consistently voted against equal rights legislation in Sacramento, blocking critical progress for LGBT families across California. It is hard to believe that in this day and age, people, like Jeff Gorell, continue to oppose equal rights for LGBT Americans. This kind of discrimination has no place in Ventura County,” concluded Zbur.
