NEW VIDEO: Jeff Gorell Again Remains Silent on Hobby Lobby Ruling
Another day, another example of why Jeff Gorell cannot be trusted to look out for Ventura County women and middle class families. More than a month after the Supreme Court ruling that put corporations in charge of women’s access to healthcare, Jeff Gorell still refuses to say where he stands on the issue. It’s no wonder Planned Parenthood gave him two zero percent ratings and why he’s supported by anti-choice politicians and organizations.

CA ProLife Council Opposed Abortion in “Any Form,” Including in Cases of Rape & Incest. “CPLC is opposed to abortion in any form… If a pregnancy occurs as a result of a sexual assault against a woman, abortion is not the answer… Using abortion to end a pregnancy which results from rape, does nothing to alleviate the pain and anguish of the rape… In the case of incest, abortion actually protects the perpetrator of the crime by concealing the incestuous act.” [California ProLife Council, archived 6/30/14]
Gorell Received $10,000 from Kevin McCarthy’s PAC. During the 2014 election cycle, Gorell received a total of $10,000 in contributions from Majority Committee, the political action committee of Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. [OpenSecrets.com, accessed 8/20/14]
McCarthy Voted to Defund Planned Parenthood. In April 2011, McCarthy voted for a resolution that, according to Congressional Quarterly, would have “bar[red] the use of funds made available in the bill to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. or its affiliates.” The vote was on a concurrent resolution to order the House clerk to make a correction in the enrollment of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2011 by inserting the proposed amendment. The House adopted the resolution by a vote of 241 to 185, and it was then sent to the Senate, which rejected it. I’m so pleased this bi-partisan legislation that will save lives among our nation’s female veterans was signed by the President today! The Female Veteran Suicide Prevention Act will lead to a better understanding of the factors that contribute to the alarmingly high suicide rates among women veterans so that we can design more effective suicide prevention programs.
A bill aimed at finding and implementing the best ways to prevent suicide by female military veterans passed the House and is now headed to Presdient Barack Obama’s desk.
24 hours in and still going strong. The Republicans may have gone home for recess but we’re still on the House floor taking a stand on commonsense gun legislation. Join my colleagues and I by signing our petition to demand action!
Right now, House Democrats led by Rep. John Lewis are staging an unprecedented sit-on on the House floor demanding a vote on gun violence prevention.
