The war in Iraq is wrong and we should withdraw now. This war is more than a tragedy, it is an atrocity. It is not, nor has it ever been, a defensive war to fight terrorism. It certainly is not a war motivated by weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The war in Iraq is an immoral and unnecessary war planned and executed by the Cheney-Rumsfeld clique, driven by the politics of oil, the industries from which President Bush and Vice-President Cheney have come.
As Cindy Sheehan has courageously shown us, "2245 Dead. How many more?" American lives and Iraqi lives, the many thousand injured and maimed, the damage to the Iraqi economy and culture, and the drain of billions from our economy, will make this war one of the most costly and reprehensible debacles in American history.
We should withdraw our troops now "not cut and run, but rise and depart" because it is quite clear that our continued presence, far from being a source of enhanced security for an embryonic democracy, is truly a catalyst and provocation for the violence we say we fear.
